Don’t Make Things Worse
If you ever get pulled over, or detained, or searched, etc., and you know that the police are wrong, don’t make things worse. It isn’t going to help to resist, or run, or to get angry and yell and cuss. I understand why all of those things may feel good in the moment, but they can result in additional charges. So if you find yourself in that difficult situation of being improperly detained or searched, it is best to maintain your composure, do not make things worse. Instead, maintain your composure, be polite, and follow orders. In doing so, you will make yourself more sympathetic to the Court and strengthen your case. Just a reminder, when I say follow orders, I do not mean to talk about anything. Unless you know that the police are talking to you because you are a victim or a witness, it’s best to invoke your right to remain silent and wait to speak to an attorney.
